Interview: Somali Transitional Govt. Appreciates China's Past Assistance

Ismael Hurreh Bubah, foreign minister of Somalia's Transitional National Government said Thursday in Addis Ababa that Somali people appreciate what china has done for them in the past.

"I am sure there will be a tremendous role for China to play in term of reconstruction of Somalia," said Bubah in an exclusive interview with Xinhua.

The foreign minister extended his hope that more investment could come from China in the areas of farming, mining, among others, and the thanks for China's past assistance in building roads, water and communication systems in his country.

Bubah, who arrived here Wednesday along with Deputy Prime Minister Osman Jamal Ali on an official visit to Ethiopia, said that his visit is aimed at exchanging views on many issues including his country's reconciliation process, with the Ethiopian government.

He dismissed any possibility of holding talks with representatives of his country's warlords, who are currently in Addis Ababa.

Somalia's interim government, set up last August, has been in a strained relations with Addis Ababa, which is reportedly supporting the warlords in Somalia. The Somali interim government recently also accused Ethiopia of launching cross border attacks against it.

But Bubah urged Ethiopia on the occasion to play a major role in bringing peace to his country.
