Former Mayor of Shenyang Expelled from CPCMu Suixin, the former mayor of Shenyang, capital city of northeast China's Liaoning Province, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from government employment because of corruption charges. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) made the announcement at a press conference here this afternoon. According to Wu Dingfu, a standing committee member and spokesman for the CCDI, Mu has also been dismissed as a deputy to the Ninth National People's Congress, as well as to the provincial and city-level people's congresses. The former mayor's case has been transferred to judicial organs for further investigation. Prior to this, Ma Xiangdong, deputy mayor of Shenyang, had been expelled from the Party, dismissed from his public position, and arrested by China's procuratorial organs. Mu has been accused of trading power for money during the years when he acted as director of the provincial department of construction, deputy governor of Liaoning, and the mayor of Shenyang, and the amount of bribes he is accused of taking is enormous, according to official sources. Ma Xiangdong is also suspected of taking large amounts of bribes from his subordinates and gang-leaders, as well as embezzling public funds and gambling overseas. CCDI Vice-Chairman Liu Liying said that Mu's case is "typical of how senior officials abuse their power for personal gain," adding that officials at all levels should learn lessons from the case, and attach due importance to economic growth and the anti- corruption drive. Liu urged all CPC members and government officials to foster a correct philosophy on life, money and power in accordance with the requirements of the three representations, namely, earnestly representing the development requirements of China's advanced social productive forces, the progressive course of China's advanced culture, and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people.
