China Expects Annual Furniture Export of 5 Billion Dollars

China's furniture industry expects to have a yearly output value of 200 billion yuan (24 billion US dollars) in five years, with its annual exports reaching 5 billion dollars.

Statistics show that the value in 2000 hit 120 billion yuan (14.5 billion dollars) and exports, 3.56 billion dollars.

The country now has 50,000 furniture enterprises of various production scales, employing 3 million people. These enterprises are concentrated in south and east China.

The southern province of Guangdong accounted for 53 percent of the nation's total export last year, or 1.83 billion dollars.

The United States is the largest importer of China-made furniture, which imported 1.88 billion dollars-worth of furniture made in China last year or 52.7 percent of China's total furniture exports, according to the customs.
