DPRK Hails Inter-Korean Summit

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held a special meeting Thursday commemorating the first anniversary of the North-South joint declaration.

Yang Hyong-Sop, vice president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, said the declaration signed last June, an outcome of the historic inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang, "marked a great milestone for national reunification."

He said that over the past year the whole nation has made great efforts to achieve national independence and unity.

He called on the Koreans to make concerted efforts in reunification and reject any foreign interference.

He urged the North and the South sides to firmly protect the declaration from internal or external challenges, in a bid to achieve reunification.

DPRK leader Kim Jong-Il and South Korean President Kim Daejung held a meeting in Pyongyang on June 13-15 last year, which produced the North-South joint declaration.
