China Reports Sustained Increase in Foreign InvestmentForeign direct investment (FDI) to China during the first five months of this year rose in terms of contractual as well as materialized volume, according to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC).Latest statistics released by the ministry showed that China approved a total of 9,421 overseas-invested companies from January to May this year, involving a contractual foreign investment of 25.97 billion U.S. dollars, up 42.29 percent over the previous corresponding period. Arrived overseas investment during the period totaled 15.057 billion U.S. dollars, up 17.98 percent. Sources from the MOFTEC said that by the end of May, the total number of overseas-funded companies in the country had reached 373, 766, involving a contractual overseas investment of 702.688 billion U.S. dollars. Meanwhile, the total materialized overseas investment has reached 363.681 billion U.S. dollars.
