Jiangxi Calls for Elimination of Campus Firework-caused Casualty IncidentsThe work of Jiangxi Province's rectification of firework and firecracker production and operational order has currently entered the stage of concentrated rectification. In the clean-up and rectification of firework and firecracker production, the province requires that a three-month concentrated rectification is expected to produce the result of eliminating exceptionally serious firework-caused casualty incidents (causing 10 or more deaths in each incident), eliminating campus firework-related incidents, as well as reducing both serious and ordinary incidents. By June 5, 2001, the provincial department concerned had examined nearly 9000 firecracker production enterprises (family workshops), discovered altogether 1926 hidden perils, closed down 186 firecracker enterprises, asked 71 units to move out their factories within the prescribed time, issued 1,511 rectification notices, and ordered 367 firecracker businesses to carry out rectification and transformation within the specified time. According to the requirements of the said province, it is not allowed to newly add firework and firecracker producing county (county-level city, district), township (town) and workshop or processing unit. With regard to major production regions, the province stresses that through upgrading, reconstruction and expansion and building of bases, these production regions should seek development space; they are required to actively readjust structure, and strive to create conditions, in order to gradually withdraw from the firework and firecracker production sector. At present, various regions and departments are further intensifying their efforts for the work of concentrated rectification. By PD Online staff member Huang Ying
