Somali Deputy Prime Minister Visits Addis Ababa

Deputy Prime Minister of the Somali Transitional National Government (TNG) Osman Jamal Ali arrived in Addis Ababa Wednesday for an official visit to Ethiopia.

During the visit, the deputy prime minister, who is leading a nine-member delegation, is expected to hold talks with senior Ethiopian officials aimed at facilitating ways to bring about a lasting peace in Somalia.

Upon his arrival, Jamal Ali reportedly met with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin, but no details were available.

Earlier Wednesday, Abdirahman Dinari, TNG's director of information has expressed willingness to hold talks with Ethiopia aimed at seeking peaceful and good neighborly relations.

He also described recent reports that Ethiopian troops invaded Somalia as exaggerated, saying: "The Ethiopian forces are where they were previously and that is closed to the Somali border, but on their side."

He added that reports that Ethiopian troops are inside southern Somali need to be verified.
