China, EU to Strengthen Cooperation in Sustainable Development

The 4th China-Europe Environment Conference was held here Wednesday, a new step China and the European Union has made to address China's environmental problems and look ahead to future sustainable development cooperation.

The conference, organized by the Asia-Ecobest Program of the European Commission and China's State Environment Protection Administration (SEPA), mainly focused on finding ways to support sustainable development in China.

Deputy head of the SEPA, Song Ruixiang, said that the Chinese government has adhered to a strategic "win-win" policy for both the environment and economy.

China has consistently attached importance to and actively taken part in international cooperation in environmental protection, while trying to attract foreign advanced technical and management experience to address its environmental problems, he said.

Ambassador Klaus Ebermann of the European Commission Delegation to China said that the transfer of EU environmental knowledge, skills and technologies will assist China's pursuit of a better environmental performance.

More than 100 environmental specialists from both government agencies and companies attended the conference. They discussed the current environmental policies, trends and the latest technological developments in both Europe and China, while working to identify new opportunities for future cooperation between the two sides.
