Overseas/Ethnic Chinese Studies DemandedOversea Chinese and ethnic Chinese nowadays have come to as many as some 30 million in the world. China, their motherland and ancestors' homeland, should play an important role in carrying out a study on their roots, life and history, appealed some experts lately in Beijing.As a result of great achievements made by overseas Chinese, science and technology, culture, education and politics, Chinese studies have become all the more popular in the world, said Zhou Nanjing, professor with Beijing University when hailing the 100th-day countdown to call the 6th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Meeting. Overseas, ethnic Chinese studies will show their fullest significance in today's world and this is especially so for those parts of the world with little effort made to that end in the past like Europe, South America and Africa. Zhou added that Chinese scholars should raise their own theory and viewpoints with Chinese characteristics. In addition, he thought the best way is like the calling of the said Entrepreneurs Meeting from which financial support will be derived for the launching of research institutions of overseas Chinese studies. Sources say that eight of the 12-volume World Chinese Encyclopedia, the first of a like publication have already been published and the other four will be out by the end of next Summer.
