Cambodia Makes Progress in Combating Drugs: Senior Official
Ek Saman, secretary of state of the Interior Ministry, said here Tuesday that Cambodian anti-drug officials have captured 10 tons of drug targeted for transferring to a third country through Cambodia during the period from August, 2000 to March, 2001.
Officials responsible for drug control had destroyed 60 hectares of marijuana, burnt down 14 tons of dried marihuana, and closed about 60 clinics and restaurants engaged in marijuana operation in provinces of Kampot, Koh Kong, Kompong Cham and Kandal, he said.
The National Authority for Combating Drugs of Cambodia also blockaded the main land and marine checkpoints in the country such as Sihanoukville port, checkpoints in Koh Kong, Kampot, in which drug trafficking runs rampant.
