Direct Passenger Train between Bangladesh and India soon

Bangladeshi Communications Minister Anwar Hossain said Tuesday that direct passenger train service between Bangladesh and India would be introduced soon, the official Bangladesh News Agency reported.

"We will not compromise with our independence and sovereignty but should not feel hesitated to take any initiative for development of people-to-people communication," he said while launching five broad gauge diesel electric locomotives for Bangladesh Railway in Tangail district.

The communications minister said Dhaka and New Delhi have introduced communication of goods train between the two countries through Benapole-Petrapol point a few months back.

Appreciating the Indian assistance in improving the railway sector of Bangladesh, Hossain said there is a historical bond between the peoples of the two countries through railway communications.

Present at the function, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Moni Lal Tripathy said the railways in the two countries play a significant role in the economic development and meeting the daily needs of the common people.
