Tianjin to Collect Garbage Disposal Fee

As of July 1, residents of this largest port city in north China will have to pay a fee for the garbage they discharge daily.

The money will be directly used to help conduct garbage disposal, including covering the cost of transportation and the construction of disposal facilities.

Tianjin produces 5,500 tons of garbage a day. However, less than half of it goes to the five disposal plants in the city due to an inadequate money supply, which previously came from the government alone.

According to the new regulation, just two, three or five yuan will be charged monthly to each household, either permanent or temporary.

So far, more than 10 provinces and municipalities throughout the country have begun collecting garbage disposal fees from their residents.
