Ghana Turns Back 168 Liberian Passengers at HarborGhanaian authorities have deported, at Tema harbor about 25 kilometers east of the capital Accra, 168 Liberians for traveling without proper documents on a Swedish ship, the Ghana News Agency reported on Monday.However, the Liberians, looked pale and weak, expressed surprise at the treatment, arguing that they were genuine passengers and did not expect the harsh treatment from Ghanaian authorities. They also argued that they should be allowed to disembark in Ghana because as members of the Economic Community of West African States, they are entitled to a 90-day stay in Ghana. According to the report, there is heavy security presence at the port to ensure that the captain of the ship comply with the directive to sail back with the Liberians. |
