NPC Chairman Meets Hungarian Delegation

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), said that the NPC attaches importance to its relations with the Hungarian National Assembly.

The NPC is also ready to conduct exchanges at various levels and between different institutions of the two parliaments, so as to learn from each other and further promote the development of relations between the two countries and the two parliaments.

Li made the remark here Monday afternoon at a meeting with a delegation from the Constitutional Court of Hungary led by its president Nemeth Janos.

Li noted that China and Hungary enjoy a traditional friendship and bilateral relations have moved forward smoothly in recent years. The frequent exchanges of high-level visits have promoted the development of bilateral friendship and cooperation, he added.

Li also briefed the delegation on China's people's congress system and the building up of the country's democratic and legal system.

Nemeth said that his delegation has exchanged wide-ranging and in-depth views with relevant Chinese departments, which has enhanced mutual understanding and friendship.

He also briefed Li on the operation of the Hungarian Constitutional Court.

The five-member delegation is here as guests of the NPC Law Committee. The Committee's Chairman Wang Weicheng held talks with the delegation.

Besides Beijing, the delegation is scheduled to visit Shenzhen and Xi'an.
