10,000 People Sing Songs marking CPC's BirthdayOver 10,000 residents in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province participated in a grand gala Sunday evening, singing songs in chorus marking the 80th anniversary of the founding the Communist Party of China (CPC), which falls on July 1.The gala, held at the riverside of the Songhua River in Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang province, began with the famous song " Without the Communist Party, There Would Be No New China", which in the past half century became well known by hundreds of millions of Chinese. Deaf and mute students from a special school performed dances under the direction of teachers in ode to the Communist Party. "It was with the help of the Party and the government that the education of the school was greatly improved," said Chi Zidong, a teacher at the school. "The Communist Party enabled us to go to school like healthy children. I can't be thankful enough to the Party," student Zhu Li said in gesture. Song Lanji, an elderly woman, the same age as the CPC, said she led a poor life when she was young, but she need not worry about food and clothes at old age thanks to the Communist Party. Her two children, who had lost their jobs, were re-employed with the help of Party officials in the neighborhood committee. Various celebration activities are being held across China over the next few weeks to mark the CPC's birthday.
