Tianjin Reports Growth in Foreign Investment

This north China port city attracted a total of 806 million US dollars in overseas investment in the first four months of this year, up 42.4 percent from the corresponding period of 2000.

The total contracted foreign investment involved in the city's 187 newly approved overseas-funded enterprises has reached 1.47 billion US dollars, up 41.5 percent year-on-year.

The sharp increase is largely attributed to the additional investment by 85 foreign-funded joint ventures, which have added 630 million US dollars to their previous investment.

Among the total 187 newly approved foreign enterprises, 18 are large in scale and have clinched a total contracted foreign investment of 324 million US dollars.

The United States was the top investor in the city during the four months, closely followed by Hong Kong, the Republic of Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
