Oklahoma City Bomber Timothy McVeigh was executed by chemical injection on Monday morning, a government official announced minutes after his death.
The spokesman said McVeigh was executed 7:14 a.m. local time and his body would be released to representatives of his family.
He said Mcveigh cooperated quite well when he was being executed, but he did not make a verbal statement.
McVeigh's death was carried out at a federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was the first federal prisoner to be executed in 38 years.

The 33-year-old Gulf War veteran was convicted of carrying out the bombing attack that killed 168 people and wounding hundreds of others at the Oklahoma City federal building in 1995.
