New Website Launched for University Candidates

Nationwide candidates now buried in preparations for next month's annual college entrance examinations are about to get easier access to information about universities.

A six-day online consultation service launched by the Ministry of Education yesterday has put information about some 100 State-run universities on the Internet for potential students. High school graduates and their parents can now visit www.chinadaxuesheng.edu.cn to chat with university staff in charge of college enrolment, or download information.

Private universities are also being invited to hold e-consultations on June 15.

As well as online consultation, the website provides enrolment and other comprehensive information about universities nationwide.

An official from the ministry said the initiative would provide an effective communication channel between candidates and universities.

"Thanks to the fast development of the Internet, graduates this year can have virtual consultations," said Qu Zhengyuan, the director of the Department for College Student Affairs under the ministry.

The ministry has informed candidates and graduates about the cyber fair in circulars sent out to high schools, widely publicizing it as a new consultation service, according to Qu.

Qu said universities should only provide true and balanced information.
