World Bank to Hold Donor Conference for Sierra Leone

The World Bank will host the Sierra Leone Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Program and Multi-Donor Trust Fund Meeting on June 11 and 12 at its European office in Paris, according to reports reaching here on Saturday from Sierra Leone's capital Freetown.

The donor conference, whose main objective is to increase additional funding for Sierra Leonean government's DDR Program, will be chaired by the World Bank, a press release issued by the world's leading financial institution was quoted as saying.

The Sierra Leonean Government's delegation led by Minister for Presidential Affairs Momodu Koroma will attend the meeting.

It was reported that over 3,000 combatants are ready for disarmament in the eastern Kono district, which will begin on June 10 and last for a month, following the first disarmament phase had concluded in the two northern districts of Kambia and Port Loko.

The peace process in the war-torn country has been accelerated in recent weeks with the Freetown agreement, under which the rebel Revolutionary United Front and a pro-government Civil Defense Forces agreed to disarmament, demobilization and reintegration without delay in a bid to resume the peace in the west country.
