Gansu Province in northwest China is building a wind power station with Spanish government loans, in a bid to tap its rich wind power resources.
The Yumen Wind Power Station, the largest in the landlocked province, will have an installed capacity of 7,200 kw and is designed to generate 18.66 million kwh of electricity a year. Total cost is estimated at 71.77 million yuan (about 8.6 million U. S. dollars), including a 4.8-million-U.S. dollar Spanish government loan. The key equipment of the power station will be imported from Spain.
Construction of the first phase of the project has already been completed so far.
According to local officials, Gansu plans to build at least three wind power stations in five years, with a combined installed capacity of 100,000 kw.
