Nigerien President Visits Northwest China's Gansu Province

Nigerien President Mamadou Tandja and his party concluded a two-day visit to Gansu Province in Northwest China and left Sunday for Jiangsu Province to continue their China trip.

Song Zhaosu, secretary of Gansu provincial committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met with Tandja on Saturday. Song briefed the guests on the conditions in the province and China's western development strategy.

Tandja said that his country and Gansu Province both face the problem of desertification. He said that he hopes the two sides will be able to cooperate in fighting against deserts.

The two sides also expressed their willingness to strengthen trade and economic cooperation.

During their stay in Gansu, Tandja and his party visited a local environment institute and a laboratory of eco-agriculture.
