Vice-Premier Urges Technology Localization for Three Gorges ProjectChinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo said Saturday urged builders of the Three Gorges Project to pay close attention to the quality of vital equipment so as to ensure the quality of the nation's largest hydropower power project, at the Three Gorges over the Yangtze River.Construction quality is of life-and-death importance to the Three Gorges Project, Wu said at a national conference on vital equipment for the Three Gorges Project. He also asked the builders to work hard in introducing and digesting of foreign advanced technology so as to improve the level of the localization of foreign advanced equipment. No errors or mistakes can be afforded for such a cross-century project, he said, and it is also high time to accelerate the localization of foreign advanced technology for manufacturing key parts and equipment for hydropower stations. The vice-premier paid tribute to the staff involved in designing, manufacturing, installing and managing key equipment for the gigantic hydropower project, and said that the project has entered a climactic stage, when the principal equipment should be either manufactured or installed.
