China Holds First Bamboo, Rattan Articles FairChina's first trade fair featuring articles made of bamboo and rattan opened Friday in Sanming City in east China's Fujian Province.Over 500 producers and dealers in bamboo and rattan products from Europe, Asia and Africa are attending the three-day fair, which is jointly sponsored by the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan, the Fujian Provincial Forestry Department and the Sanming city government. On display are some 700 products, include handicrafts, articles of everyday use and construction materials. An international forum on the development of the bamboo and rattan industry will also be held during the fair. Fujian, the largest bamboo producer in China, with 800,000 ha of land devoted to commercial bamboo groves, produced bamboo and rattan products worth 4.6 billion yuan (about 560 million U.S. dollars) in 2000. |
