HK Delegation to Attend Int'l Labor Conference in Geneva

A Hong Kong Special Administrative Region delegation departed Saturday for Geneva to attend the 89th session of the International Labor Conference which runs from June 5 to 21, the government announced Saturday.

The delegation, headed by Hong Kong's Commissioner for Labor, Pamela Tan Kam Mi-wah,and comprised government officials and employer and employee representatives of the Labor Advisory Board (LAB), will participate as advisors to the Chinese delegation.

"Through active participation in the activities of the International Labor Organisation, the government keeps abreast of the latest developments in international labor standards and shares experiences with other countries in labor policies and practices," a spokesman for the Labor Department said.

The conference's agenda this year will include discussions on safety and health in agriculture, promotion of co-operatives and social security issues, challenges and prospects.

The HKSAR delegates will attend the plenary session and committee sittings of the conference.
