Chinese, French FMs Discuss Middle East

Chinese foreign minister Tang Jiaxuan Friday telephoned his French counterpart Hubert Vedrine to exchange views on Iraq and other Middle East issues.

Tang made positive comments on China and France having maintained a sound cooperative relationship with regard to serious international and regional issues. He stressed that China is willing to strengthen consultations with France.

Vedrine agreed with Tang's comments, saying that he appreciates China's unique role in dealing with the issue of Iraq, and that France is willing to make greater efforts to coordinate with China.

The two foreign ministers expressed the belief that dialog and negotiations are the right solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict.

They also appealed to Israel and Palestine to work actively with the United Nations and the international community, which have been making efforts to coordinate to resolve the conflict, so as to create a good atmosphere for the resumption of peace talks.

The Chinese and French foreign ministers expressed that they will work to push the cooperation between the two countries on international issues to a new level.
