Chinese, Tajikistan Foreign Ministers Confer in Beijing

China will, as always, support Tajikistan's efforts for consolidating national independence and vitalizing its national economy, and is ready to continue to do whatever it can for the Central Asian country, Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan said Friday.

During talks with his Tajikistan counterpart Talbak Nazarov, Tang said since the two countries forged diplomatic ties nearly 10 years ago, bilateral good-neighborly friendship has had a healthy and steady development, and cooperation of mutual benefit in various fields has yielded remarkable results.

China appreciates the Tajikistan government's consistent and clear-cut support for China on Taiwan, Tibet and other issues, Tang added.

Nazarov said the high level of bilateral relations and frequent contacts between leaders of the two countries have pushed forward the development of bilateral ties.

He said Tajikistan firmly supports China's principled stand on the Taiwan issue, and will never have official contacts with Taiwan in any form. Tajikistan supports the Chinese government's efforts for safeguarding national unity and territorial integrity.

He added that there has been good cooperation between the two countries in such fields as economy, trade, national defense, security and communications, and the cooperation is expanding.

This is in the fundamental interests of the two peoples, said Nazarov, expressing his belief that there are broad prospects for bilateral cooperation.

Nazarov said that separatism, terrorism and extremism are three forces which constitute destructive elements for the peace, security and stability in Central Asia. He pledged that Tajikistan would strengthen cooperation with China in maintaining regional security.
