Trinidad Wants to Offer Lower Oil Prices to Caricom States: Prime Minister

Oil and gas rich Trinidad and Tobago is considering a plan to provide subsidies in oil products to the 14-member Caribbean Community (Caricom), Prime Minister Basdeo Panday said Thursday.

"We are looking at reducing absolutely the costs of oil and its products," Panday told reporters after a meeting with his Grenada counterpart, Keith Mitchell.

Panday and Mitchell signed a joint declaration to improve economic and political ties between the neighbouring countries.

Mitchell who headed a four-man government mission said it was in Trinidad and Tobago's interest to reduce the cost of energy products to the small countries in the region.
