China Becomes IOM ObserverThe International Organization for Migration (IOM) Thursday approved a resolution granting China observer status at its 81st session of the council meeting.Qiao Zonghuai, ambassador of China's Permanent Mission in Geneva, expressed in his speech the hope for increased international cooperation to combat trans-national crimes concerning migration. He reiterated China's opposition to illegal migration, human smuggling and trafficking. On the same day, the IOM session accepted the Republic of Congo, Azerbaijan, Britain, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Gambia and Georgia as its new members. |
