Yunnan Proposes Strengthening Cooperation in Lancang-Mekong River Region

Southwest China's Yunnan suggested Thursday that more efforts should be made to promote cooperation among all countries in the Lancang-Mekong River area to achieve common prosperity.

Addressing a symposium on trade, investment and cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong region, Shao Qiwei, vice-governor of Yunnan, said that it is necessary for all sides to build up economic cooperation and trade zones, to facilitate smooth development of trade in the region.

Yunnan suggested that all countries involved continue convenient trading and investment experiments.

The province also proposed that all countries in the region strengthen collaboration and make concerted efforts to improve the investment environment to lure more capital.

Yunnan will, under the arrangement of the central government, actively participate in bilateral and multilateral cooperation in luring investment, said the vice-governor, adding that his province also encourages Chinese enterprises to invest and conduct trade and economic cooperation in other countries.

According to the vice-governor, Yunnan also proposed that all sides increase efforts to build up a convenient and effective payment system in trade.

Border trade has played an important role in boosting bilateral economies in the border areas and in building a friendly relationship between countries concerned. The vice-governor said that efforts are needed to further perfect border trade policies to push forward bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

The symposium, part of the on-going Kunming International Import and Export Trade Fair, closed Thursday afternoon.
