Shanghai Bids for World EXPO 2010

Chen Liangyu, commissioner of China 2010 Shanghai World EXPO Bidding Committee and standing deputy-mayor of Shanghai, told Shanghai's application for hosting the World EXPO 2010 at a meeting held by the Bureau of International Exhibition in Paris on June 6.

He said that the World EXPO so far has a history of more than 100 years and has played a big role in enhancing mutual understanding of people of the world and promoting social development. Thanks to the speedy economic growth, blending of Oriental and Western cultures and combination of tradition with modern life, Shanghai has served as a channel between China and the world.

He suggested hosting the World EXPO 2010 in Pudong New District of Shanghai from May 1 to October 31 under the theme of "Better City Better Life".

Presently, Moscow of Russia and Yeosu of Republic of Korea are also bidding for the World EXPO 2010.
