Tibet Free From Acid Rain

The Tibet Autonomous Region reported high air quality in the whole of 2000, with no acid rain falling, according to the report on the environmental conditions in Tibet that was issued recently.

The China Central Television (CCTV) reported air quality of the Tibet regional capital, Lhasa , for 210 days last year, with slight air pollution for only one day, and with high air quality for all other days.

In 2000, the Tibet Environment Monitoring Center monitored the quality of air above the base camp on the north slope of Mount Qomolangma. The monitoring results showed that the air quality of the Mountain Qomolangma area met the first-class standard set by the state.
