Over 200 Rebel Soldiers Surrender to Angolan Government
Some 240 rebel soldiers led by Jonas Savimbi have surrendered in recent days to the
Angola
n government in the central Uige Province, the official news agency Angop reported on Thursday.
Vice Governor of the Uige province Antonio Joao was quoted by the report as saying that 200 of the capitulators are willing to join the government troops, namely the Armed Forces of Angola (FAA) .
Joao appealed to those who are still following Savimbi to put down their arms and reintegrate themselves into the civil society, stressing that the provincial government will create conditions for receiving those former rebel soldiers.
