Chinese Vice-Premier Meets Heads of APEC MRT Delegations

Chinese Vice-Premier Li Lanqing met Thursday with the heads of delegations from member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), who are here attending the APEC meeting of ministers responsible for trade (MRT).

Li said that Chinese President Jiang Zemin and the Chinese Government are paying special attention to the APEC activities in China as the country is the host of the APEC meetings this year. China is willing to work with all member economies to push forward APEC cooperation vigorously in the new century, he said.

The APEC MRT meeting, Li said, is an important mechanism for discussing trade and investment within APEC, and plays an significant role in the cooperation of APEC.

Li said he was convinced that the current MRT meeting will contribute a lot to the establishment of a free and open trade and investment environment in the Asia-Pacific region, and to the common development of APEC member economies.

Shi Guangsheng, chair of the MRT meeting and minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) of China, told the vice-premier that the meeting has been quite "fruitful."
