7th China-ASEAN Senior Officials Consultations HeldThe 7th China-ASEAN Senior Officials Consultations were held Wednesday and Thursday at Bo'ao in Hainan Province in south China.A Chinese delegation headed by Vice Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the meeting. Participants at the meeting reached consensus on wide-ranging issues. Participants reviewed and evaluated the recent progress of China-ASEAN relations. They agreed that the bilateral cooperation has entered a new stage and faces new opportunities at the beginning of the new century. They agreed to further explore and deepen the all-round cooperation and enrich the good-neighborly and mutual trust partnership between the two sides in the new century. The Chinese side offered a series of proposals to further deepen the bilateral relations and suggested more attention be given to cooperation in the areas of agriculture, information, human resource development, mutual investment, and developing the Mekong River. The ASEAN countries expressed their appreciation to the Chinese side for promoting bilateral cooperation and a practical attitude towards the suggestions of Premier Zhu Rongji at the China-ASEAN leadership meeting last year. The two sides also exchanged views on current international and regional situations and agreed to strengthen their coordination and cooperation in this regard. They agreed that the Eighth China-ASEAN Senior Officials Consultations will be held in April, 2002, in Indonesia. |
