Officials Banned From Helping Spouses, Children Do Business: WeiWei Jianxing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, has warned officials not to use official powers to help their spouses or children do business. This remark was made by the senior Party official during his study tour of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region from June 1-6. Wei is also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. During his tour, Wei visited local factories and villages, and held discussions with local officials and ordinary people on the issue of building a clean government and fighting corruption. In his talks, he urged officials to abide by relevant anti- corruption rules of the CPC Central Committee. Currently, it is strictly forbidden for leading officials to use their powers to provide conveniences for their spouses and children in doing business or running enterprises, he stressed. Last year, the CPC Central Committee issued an order banning such conduct done by officials at the county level and above. Since then, 86 central departments have stipulated rules for implementing the order, according to Wei. A small number of leading officials who have failed to prevent such activities must be punished, he stressed. He criticized some officials who have ignored similar orders that were issued by the CPC Central Committee long ago and instructions by the CPC General Secretary Jiang Zemin. |
