Spokesman on US Decision to Resume Talks with DPRK

China hopes that the United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) continue the dialogue process and play a positive role for the peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, said a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Thursday.

Spokesman Sun Yuxi made the remark at a press conference when asked to comment on the US announcement of its decision to resume talks with the DPRK.

Sun said that the improvement of DPRK-US relations has been an important factor contributing to the easing of the situation on the Korean Peninsula since last year.

He expressed hope that the DPRK and the United States make positive efforts for continuing the dialogue so as to contribute to the peace and stability of the peninsula.

This will be in the interests of the north and south of the Korean Peninsula, as well as other parties concerned, including the United States, Sun said.
