Medical Library Service Available in Beijing
The Union Medical University Library under the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences was opened in Beijing, June 6. Put at the service of the capital there is also the National Medical Library under the China National Science and Technology Center.
Reputed as one of the "three treasures of Union Medical University" along with "medical records" and "professors", the Union Medical University Library is one built on its predecessor "Union Medical College Library" set up with funds from US Rockfeller Foundation in 1917. As a famous medical library it boasts a long history and a large collection of books with expertise.
Now it boasts a collection of over 450,000 biological and medical books and journals, especially those foreign along with over thousand old works on traditional Chinese medicine. It is equipped with electric and multi-media reading rooms, as well as Internet surfing facilities.
The China National Science and Technology Center was set up in June 2000 and opened at the end of the year to provide searching network of sci-tech documents for professionals. It is a combination of libraries of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, of engineering, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.
