Olympic Champion Zhang/Gao Reach Quarterfinals at Badminton Worlds

Olympic mixed doubles champion Zhang Jun and Gao Ling advanced to the quarterfinals of the world badminton championships Wednesday in Seville.

The Chinese pair beat Sara Runesten-Petersen and A Daniel Shirley of New Zealand 15-13, 15-5 and will next meet Vita Marisa and Nova Widisanto of Indonesia, a 15-8, 15-8 winner over South Korea's Lee Jae Jin and Hwang Yu Mi.

Their fellow Chinese Liu Yong/Cheng Jiao also clinched a berth in the last eight after knocked out Ian Sullivan/Indarti Issolina 15-8, 15-6. They will vie for a semifinal place with top seed Michael Sogaard/rikke Olsen on Thursday.

The Danish pair advanced to the quarterfinals by easily beating Nicholas hall/Lianne Shirley of New Zealand 15-3, 15-4 in 22 minutes.
