Kunming Import and Export Trade Fair Opens
The Ninth Kunming Import and Export Trade Fair, an annual event since 1993, opens Wednesday in Kunming.
The five-day event has attracted 117 overseas enterprises including 38 multinational corporations such as Siemens and GE, more than 1,000 businesspeople from some 30 countries, regions and international organizations, and more than 1,200 enterprises, including over 100 foreign-funded enterprises, from 27 Chinese provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions.
The trade fair includes a series of symposiums on regional trade, investment and cooperation, and other commercial activities.
Diplomats from southeast and south Asian countries, who are here attending the opening of the fair, spoke highly of the trade fair, which has actively promoted trade and economic cooperation between southwestern China and these countries.
For example, Yunnan Province has participated in the construction of a cement plant, a national cultural center, development of a potash fertilizer and a number of agricultural science and technology projects in Laos.
Last year, a total of 183,000 people from Yunnan went to Laos to conduct commercial activities.
The current event is sponsored by seven provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions and cities in southwest China, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and five overseas commercial organizations including the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Hong Kong, Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Macao, and Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Thailand.
