Afghanistan ruling Taliban militia Tuesday announced a rigid code of conduct for foreigners in this country, laying down harsh penalties for offenders, officials said.
A Taliban statement said foreign visitors would give a written undertaking to abide by the terms of the new code which prohibits obscenity, drinking, loud music, proselytizing, eating of pork and distribution of material defaming the Taliban government.
Taliban Information Minister Qudratullah Jamal said the restrictions on foreigners were being imposed in order to protect Afghan society from evil influences.
Under the new code the Taliban could expel offenders or put them behind bars for a term ranging from three days to one month.
