Indian President Expresses Solidarity With New King of Nepal

Indian President KR Narayanan has conveyed his deep sorrow and condolence to King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev of Nepal on the painful national tragedy and expressed solidarity with His Majesty, the government and people of Nepal at the time of this national grief.

In a message of condolence, the Indian President said, "As you assume the leadership of the Kingdom of Nepal in these sad circumstances, I would like to express the solidarity of India as a close friend of Nepal, in your efforts to put behind you this national tragedy and to lead the people of Nepal in their continuing endeavours for stable socio-economic development". He further said that Indian government looks forward to working with His Majesty's Government to further strengthen and intensify mutually beneficial co-operation between our two countries.
