Hong Kong Developed into International News Center
The curtain for the Association of World Newspapers was up at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on the morning of June 4. Tung Chee Hwa, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) addressed the opening ceremony, saying that Hong Kong has developed into an international press center today.

First of all, Tung described the booming media industry in Hong Kong. He said there are plenty and varieties of newspapers and magazines and also a high volume of reading that rank at the top of the world. Due to the freedom of press and speech practiced in Hong Kong, plus the advantage of its geographical location, Hong Kong has attracted many international news agency, oversea publishers and radio companies to set up their offices here, resulting a significant development in the region.

Why Hong Kong has developed from a regional news center to an international one is because Hong Kong enjoys a unique condition: the advanced infrastructure facilities, satellite system, network, telecommunication, optical fiber technology as well as the popularity of Internet and mobile phones, Tung continued. And secondly, it attributes to the complete rule of laws and legal spirit that is indispensable to the development of an international news center. What's more, the newsmen in Hong Kong, diligent, vigorous and ambitious and dare to meet with the challenge are always ready to contribute to the media industry here, thereby rendering Hong Kong the great achievements as seen today.
