Ethiopian Reforms Designed to Promote Market-Based EconomyEthiopian President Negasso Gidada said Monday that the various reform programs that were undertaken in the country with the view to promoting market-based economy were on the right track.Although the war with Eritrea and the vagaries of weather have had negative impact on economic growth, both donors and the government remain confident that the reforms designed to promote market-based economy were gaining momentum, said the president at the 3rd international conference on public management, policy and development held here. He said the conference was convened at a time when the Ethiopian government moves to crack down on corruption and nepotism, calling on governmental and non-governmental organizations, civil societies and the general public to join hands in strengthening the various socio-economic reforms, which are instrumental for the development of the country. Negasso also underlined the need for the reassessment of African approach to economic integration, which he said, should be enriched by a detailed analysis of the structural constraints of African economies. Scholars, experts and practitioners coming from African nations were attending the three-day conference. |
