Chinese Scholar Bestowed Danish Knight Insignia
Ambassador of Denmark to China, Christopher Bo Bramsen,presented the Knight Insignia of the Order of the Dannebrog to Professor Ge Ge, for his contribution to increasing the Chinese understanding of Danish science and promoting the Denmark-China scientific cooperation.
The Order of the Dannebrog is awarded to Danish and foreign citizens for their meritorious civil or military service, particularly contributions to the arts, sciences or business life.
Professor Ge Ge was born on January 22, 1922 in Hebei Province. He is an expert in physics and before he retired in 1991, he was a professor of history of physics and supervisor of the graduate students in China University of Petroleum. After retirement, he continued to trace historical developments of microphysics and philosophical problems in the modern physics.
Since 1980, Ge Ge has written and translated a number of articles and books about the history of physics, including the works of the most famous Danish physicist Professor Neils Bohr.
His most important works has been the translation of The Neils Bohr Collected Works. Through many of his translations and work in physics research, Ge Ge has played an important role in making Danish scientific development known to the Chinese public. He has also been one of the main participants in the scientific cooperation and friendship between China and Denmark.
Ge Ge is the third Chinese citizen who has been given the Order by Her Majesty Margrethe II. The former Chinese recipients are H.C. Andersen's translators Professor Ye Junjian and Professor Lin Hua.
