Macao Marks World Environment Day

A wealth of activities is being held in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) to mark this year's World Environment Day, which falls on Tuesday, with the theme of "Connecting with the World-Wide Web of Life."

Macao people will have a better understanding on the major sources of pollution and energy on the earth and local environmental problems at a month-long exhibition.

Local nurseries, laboratories and vehicle test centers will open to the public in the coming six days. A film titled "The Management of Solid Wastes" will be inaugurated Tuesday afternoon.

Hundreds of young people joined a bicycle-riding team in the street Sunday to remind local residents of the auto pollution.

Moreover, the SAR government will launch a campaign to encourage the residents to sort out their daily garbage so that the wastes can be re-used properly.

The Macao Environment Protection Committee on Tuesday urged the SAR government to map an overall plan to reduce the pollution from local cement and power plants and improve the water quality.
