China Suffers More Red Tides

China reported 28 red tides in 2000, 13 more than in 1999, according to a communique on environmental protection released Tuesday.

The communique, released by the State Environmental Protection Administration, said that the affected water coverage totaled 10, 000 square kilometers in the year. Major waters include offshore areas of Zhejiang, Liaoning, Guangdong, Hebei and Fujian provinces.

The Bohai Sea is the most severely-polluted and the East China Sea, the most slightly-polluted, according to the communique.
