China's investment in environment protection in the past five years accounted for 0.93 percent of its gross domestic products (GDP), according to a communique released Tuesday.
The communique, issued by the State Environment Protection Administration, said that the country promulgated a series of laws and regulations to help protect environment in the past years.
Statistics from the administration show that during the Ninth Five-Year Plan period (1996-2000), the country closed down 84,000 heavily-polluting enterprises.
