Sino-Nepal Trade Temporarily Suspended

After the bloodbath of Nepali royal house stunned the whole world, Zhangmu Port has been closed by Nepal's side, and import and export trade between China and Nepal through this port was temporarily suspended June 2, according to sources from the Customs.

So far, exports from China were dumped on the Chinese side in the free trade zone. Only tourists not merchants were permitted to enter Nepal after martial law was enforced. Meanwhile, an increased number of Nepali merchants came over in the early morning.

According to a resident in the Customs, few persons are expected to apply to the Customs due to suspension of transport on the border. A woman offering Customs declaration said she was worried about how long she could be let go for an overstock of cloth she has got for days on hand.

The Nepali massacre will cause great loss to bilateral trade and a long time trade suspension will be unbearable to small businessmen, some experts say. But trade still remains normal at the port.
