2 Israelis, 7 Palestinians Injured in Gunfire Exchange in Rafah

Two Israeli soldiers and seven Palestinians were injured in a gunfire exchange between Palestinian gunmen and Israeli troops in Rafah, south of Gaza City, on Monday afternoon.

Eyewitnesses said that Israeli troops, who tried to enter Rafah to level Palestinian farmland, exchanged fire with over 10 Palestinian gunmen. The Palestinian security forces rushed to the site to keep the Palestinian gunmen away.

Israeli military bulldozers protected by tanks overnight leveled vast Palestinian-controlled land. Over 50 donams (4.695 hectares) of Palestinian farmland were leveled and then surrounded by barbed wire, the eyewitnesses added.

Palestinian security sources said that such Israeli actions were aimed at impounding land and annexing it to central Gaza Strip's Kfar Darum Jewish settlement.
