China to Release Daily Air Quality ForecastChina will release a daily forecast on the air quality in 47 major Chinese cities starting Tuesday, the State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA) said Monday.Wang Xinfang, deputy director of SEPA, said that the move was aimed to enhance the public's awareness of environmental protection. Cities under monitoring include capital cities of 32 provinces and autonomous regions, major coastal cities and tourist sites. The forecast, to be broadcast on the China Central TV every evening, will include air pollution index, major pollutant and air quality ratings for the next day. "Next, we're going to release a report on the water quality of major rivers on a regular basis," said Wang. The forecast model was co-produced by the SEPA and the Central Meteorological Station. China began to produce a weekly report on the air quality in 47 major Chinese cities a year ago.
